WWJD What would James Do?

November 15, 2010

Lebron James is arming him self with the power of Nike to combat the army of hate that Cav fans and critics alike have dished because of his decision to not stay with Cleveland. He has definitely taken the heat for his move to Miami. Fans have burned jerseys and started an all out war against James.  With some cause too, the legacies of the greats have all been recorded to stay with their number one team.  Michael Jordan won 6 titles for the Chicago Bulls and the Bulls were clearly Jordan’s team. This unwritten law is a perfect equation for a place in the Hall of Fame.  Jordan had this to say about Lebron’s decision  “There’s no way, with hindsight, I would’ve ever called up Larry [Bird], called up Magic [Johnson] and said, ‘Hey, look, let’s get together and play on one team”.

So why did James make his decision to go to the Heat? There are some clear factors on paper a 100 million dollar contract, getting to join a now trio of all stars, and finally have a fighting chance to get a championship ring. His message is clear in the advertisement he is a person with decisions to make and this is the 21st century. Is it really a crime to think for yourself, and forget about mainstream?

Fans are going wild. They are burning James’ jersey on the streets. They have made one thing clear they do not want Lebron James coming home. Lebron is a person Cleveland is forgetting about. Through this campaign he is humanizing himself, and asking himself should he be the Villian? Since when is it villainous to do what you want? Does he really have to live for what we as fans want? Absolutely not, Lebron may have not done right by some eyes but he did what he thought was best in his own eyes and that’s what matters. So what would James do? Exactly what he wants to do, and shouldn’t have to answer to nobody.
